Saint-Merry, part 2
Another illustration of the June 1832 revolt, a couple more pictures of the church itself and the surrounding area—imagine barricading that street! (It was probably narrower at the time.) To go with all the Charles Jeanne “thrilling tales from the real-life barricades of 1832!" stuff I’ve been posting lately.
(I’m not sure whether the street pictured, the Rue du Cloître-Saint-Merri, was barricaded in 1832. The famous “barricades of Saint-Merry” themselves were one to two blocks north, between the Rue Aubry-le-Boucher and the Rue Maubuée, but there were definitely insurgents taking potshots at the National Guard from the church whenever they tried to attack the main barricades from the Rue Saint-Martin—the cross street visible in the background of the photo.)
